Register on Handshake to sign up for the session that fits your schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-1 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading has-vivid-red-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-8824e36abdd6903b87278dee36a5848b\">NO SHOW POLICY <\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading has-vivid-red-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-098d48a8d122ec0e59d77fd6f98b9d40\"><strong>Effective August 1, 2026<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The Newhouse Career Development Center (CDC) strives to provide an exceptional experience for all students. The CDC\u2019s No Show Policy is designed to reduce the number of students who do not show up for CDC career advising appointments, career seminars and employer events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-d8daa25167d3342e18aa642c32616345\"><strong>CDC Appointments, Career Seminars and Employer Events<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Students are expected to arrive on time or cancel the appointment or registration in Handshake at least two (2) hours before the start time. If a student <strong>does not check-in<\/strong> for the appointment, seminar or event, the student will be marked as a &#8220;NO SHOW.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-vivid-red-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-9f693e09ee3a37ead561f39abd96cccc\">PENALTY FOR NO SHOWS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-vivid-red-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-5640fd1c8562d3434f1461f8031da462\">Blocked Handshake Account <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Warnings:&nbsp;<\/strong>Each time a student is marked as a &#8220;NO SHOW,&#8221; the CDC will notify the student directly via email. <strong>This warning will outline the no show policy and remind the student of the consequences of accumulating three (3) no shows within an academic year (August-May).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Blocked Handshake Account:<\/strong>&nbsp;The Career Center will BLOCK the Handshake account for any student who receives&nbsp;<strong>three&nbsp;(3) NO SHOWS&nbsp;<\/strong>during a semester &amp;\/or academic year for any combination of CDC career advising appointments, career development events, and employer recruiting events. <strong>The student&#8217;s Handshake account will remain blocked for the entire semester.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">When a Handshake account is blocked, the student cannot apply to jobs and\/or internships on Handshake, register to attend events, or schedule appointments to meet with a career counselor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Regaining Access to Handshake:<\/strong> A blocked Handshake account will be reactivated only after the student takes one or both of the following steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Submit a written statement<\/strong>&nbsp;to the CDC explaining why they continued to no show despite receiving warnings, and\/or<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:0px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Schedule and attend a meeting<\/strong>&nbsp;with a CDC staff member to discuss the pattern of no shows and their commitment to honoring future appointments and registrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Once the CDC has reviewed the written statement and\/or conducted the meeting, access will be reinstated at the CDC&#8217;s discretion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-horizontal is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-1 wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-luminous-vivid-orange-background-color has-background wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/syr.joinhandshake.com\/edu\/events\">Register on Handshake<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-luminous-vivid-orange-color has-text-color\">Fall 2026 SEMINARS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Get Ready to Get Ahead: Finding an Internship<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">There are a lot of internships out there! In the Finding an Internship seminar, the Newhouse CDC lays out the steps to conducting a successful internship search, explains the internship resources that exist at Newhouse and on campus, and demonstrates how to use a unique networking tool (CareerShift) to augment any internship search.
