IEEE is the world’s largest professional technical organization with over 500,000 members worldwide, and IEEE Spectrum is the organization’s award-winning flagship publication. We are looking for a journalism intern with a background or a strong interest in science and technology, who is interested in explaining technological breakthroughs to a broad, but educated, audience.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated interest in science or technology journalism.
  • Bachelors degree in engineering, computer science, or physical sciences preferred.
  • Internships typically run June to August. You’ll work out of our New York City office up to 30 hours per week.

Duties

  • The internship is mostly reporting and writing news for the website and the magazine.
  • Past interns have also been involved in features for special reports, infographics, and other parts of the publication.
  • The goal is for the intern to come away having written a number of in-depth news stories.
  • The heart of most such stories is explaining how something that's quite complicated works.
