WPBS is seeking an entry-level individual interested in video editing to join our production team, for an initial 4 month (May – August) paid internship during summer 2024, with the possibility of transitioning into a permanent role. Editing assignments will include packaging of video content for in-classroom educational use, editing of station promos and underwriting acknowledgements, and broadcast and digital content including short form “segments” for our flagship program, WPBS Weekly: Inside the Stories.
WPBS is the primary public educational television station and PBS affiliate for Northern New York and Eastern Ontario, reaching hundreds of thousands of loyal viewers across the region. WPBS produces award-winning local content including WPBS Weekly: Inside the Stories, Park It! and Whiz Quiz. The station also has a long history of producing or presenting local programming – mainly in the lifestyle, how-to and recreation/travel genres – which is seen across the entire country on PBS stations. WPBS delivers educational content using resources developed in-house and also through PBS LearningMedia to support teacher curriculum content delivery and at-home learning.
 Learn to edit a variety of video content, including but not limited to educational videos for classroom use, social media content, online digital content, and broadcast segments/programs. Editors select and organize raw footage, arrange shots in a logical sequence to assemble the rough cut, refine the edit, adding sound effects, narration and music, complete color grading/ correction and closed captioning, and export the final product.

Qualifications

  • Basic proficiency and aptitude for software tools
  • A keen eye for detail, creativity in storytelling, and the ability to deliver visually engaging content
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members and take direction from project leads
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines without compromising quality

Duties

  • Develop proficiency in industry-standard video editing software e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Premiere Pro, and After Effects, and stay up to date with the latest advancements in video editing technology and techniques
  • Collaborate with other members of the production and post-production team, including videographers, graphic designers, content creators, audio recordists and visual effects artists to achieve a cohesive and polished final product
  • Incorporate feedback from stakeholders/educators and make necessary revisions to ensure the final product meets or exceeds expectations
