Weekend Meteorologist

WDRB Media is looking for a skilled Meteorologist to join an extremely successful weather team. WDRB’s meteorologists use the most advanced equipment including augmented reality presentations to deliver critical information to viewers. We are a loaded weather department with MAX Reality (AR) and 6 MAX boxes. Qualified candidates will have a high skill level with severe weather coverage including tornado warnings and work well in a team environment.  Person must be an excellent communicator on all digital platforms, which includes social media, blogging, on-air presentation, and school talks.

Qualifications

  • Must have strong meteorological skills to understand and decipher raw weather data
  • Ability to create weather forecasts that will be used on all media platforms
  • Strong communication skills for on-air, web, and social media areas with ability to understand presentation for each platform is unique
  • Must possess excellent ad lib skills and be able to drive long-form severe weather coverage solo or in a team setting
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong understanding of the field of meteorology and a proven track record of forecasting
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology/Atmospheric Science required
  • Minimum 1 years as a broadcast meteorologist at a commercial television station
  • Proficiency with complex computer-driven weather production systems such as TWC MAX Weather Systems
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and all social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)

Duties

  • Prepare and anchor accurate, interesting, and informative weathercasts
  • Generate daily forecasts covering changing conditions including severe weather, active weather, and potential atmospheric hazards
  • Generate forecasts of future events including trends that could warn people of potential hazards
  • Be able to provide severe weather coverage on all platforms including on-air, web, and social media
  • Develop and innovate new presentation tools for TV and digital platforms
  • Update website daily, write weather blog, and post weather content on social media platforms
