The Philadelphia Inquirer is seeking a News Reporter Intern with a focus on politics to support coverage of local, state, and regional government across the Philadelphia area.
This is a 9-week, paid, full-time internship running from June through August 2026.
Qualifications
- Must be attending an accredited college or university
- Rising juniors or seniors studying journalism, communications, or a related field, as well as recent graduates and current graduate students
- Experience working for a college news outlet; prior professional internship experience is a plus
- Strong understanding of digital media platforms and audience engagement
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and journalistic ethics
Duties
- Report on breaking news and developing stories across a wide range of topics
- Cover issues such as criminal justice, policy and governance, identity and gender, immigration, gentrification, transportation, and development
- Write timely, accurate stories while continuously updating coverage as events unfold throughout the day
- Identify and pitch enterprise stories that go beyond daily news coverage
- Monitor news trends and respond quickly to emerging stories
