Understanding the Different Virtual Session Options

Are you planning to attend the virtual communications, journalism and media career fair this semester? Understanding the types of sessions offered can help you make the most of your experience. Here’s a quick guide to help you prepare:

Individual Sessions (15 minutes): These are one-on-one meetings with recruiters that are a mini-interview that you need to pre-register to reserve a time slot. These will be focused conversations tailored to your qualifications. Be sure to come prepared with questions and knowledge about the company.

Group Sessions (30 minutes): These are presentations or panels hosted by employers for larger audiences.

Learn about company culture and hiring processes and hear questions from peers you might not have considered. This option is great for exploring multiple employers quickly. No registration needed, but engagement may be less personal.

Tips for Success:

If possible, attend both session types to maximize your time with the employer. Attending a group session to hear about the company will allow you to have a thoughtful conversation if you have a individual session scheduled at a later time.

Prepare thoughtful questions ahead of time! This is how you will stand out from other candidates and maximize your time with the recruiter.

Although virtual you need to dress professionally and check your tech setup prior to your sessions.

Lastly, it is important to follow up with recruiters after the fair! This is just the start of your connection to the recruiter or company.
