WMTW-TV, the ABC affiliate in Portland, ME, has an opening for a summer News Intern. This 10-week paid internship provides individuals the opportunity to learn about the operations of a broadcast television station. You will gain knowledge of the broadcast industry through exposure to all the positions within the News and Production departments. This internship will run from approximately June thru August with some flexibility based on your availability.
News Interns will work alongside reporters, producers, directors, studio operators, and News managers to experience nearly all aspects of television news creation.
Duties
- Learn how news is gathered and assigned
- Shadow reporters on interviews and during live shots
- Shadow photographers as they film and edit news stories and coordinate live shots
- Learn about the strategic use of WMTW’s website and social media platforms
- Understand the process of creating a news broadcast from scratch and learn the basics of television news writing
- Observe the technical execution of newscasts including directing live shows and audio operation
- Learn camera shots, angles and lighting
